The Worldwide #1 for Robotic Automatic Finish
The market-leading robotic system for detecting and repairing paint defects in series production
Your challenges – our passion
The automotive industry is facing the most radical change since the beginning of automation. Technological innovations, increasing environmental and safety regulations and a changing market are the drivers of this development. In a competitive environment with always new players, manufacturers are producing under enormous cost pressure and a permanent shortage of qualified employees. Customers expect a flawless image – a perfect finish.
After the first painting robots were introduced in the early 1970s and the first integration of automatic defect detection from ASIS and Micro-Epsilon in 2014, we are now in the process of fully automating the finish area in series production. With over 70 robots working in series production, the system of ASIS and Micro-Epsilon is the world’s number 1 for the automatic detection and repair of defects on clear coat surfaces in series production.
The aim is the perfect finish – smart and fast.
Smart integration of new car body types, highest coverage in defect detection of all systems available on the market, simple and fast media supply for a perfect finish without haze. A precise, safe and fast system, targeted for series operation.
ASIS and Micro-Epsilon give the answer to your challenges in transforming the finish sector. Perfect premium optics for your customers, cost-efficient production and market-leading technology strengthen your competitiveness.
Surface Inspection
This is the high-res eye, our Reflect Control System. It features a robotic setup that scans cars stationary, achieving 98% coverage of the outer surface — the highest in the industry. We capture quality data up to 1 mm from the edges.
New car bodies are integrated quickly, and the system automatically adapts to different colors. We ensure top repetition rates in size, position, and classification. With 6D position compensation, we achieve accuracy under 3 mm at the car body. The system produces real 3D data for each defect, enabling perfect treatment recipes and big data analysis of upstream processes.
In addition, it can simultaneous evaluate paint structure appearance, highly correlating with the industry-standard longwave measurement.

Surface Treatment
For e-coat and primer repair, we developed the Rob-E-Unit, an electric orbital sander used in setups over 80 times worldwide. Its modular design supports multiple sanding disc sizes and patterns, ensuring flexibility. With active force control, it applies consistent pressure from any angle, and its fine speed control ensures the disc stops precisely, aligning with our Disc-X-Change station for paper changes in under 15 seconds. The magazine holds up to 400 discs.
For clearcoat repair, we offer a slim double-tooling head for precise sanding and polishing, with minimal overspray when dispensing polishing paste. Compact stations for sanding discs and polishing pads are easy to refill. Our system handles over 30 defects with one disc, saving material. Automated paste dispensing (0.1-0.4 g) is precise.
Our Polish-Sup system uses cartridges mounted on the robot, with short air-free lines and a position sensor tracking cartridge levels. The Polish-Pump refills eight cartridges quickly with air-free couplings.

Marking System
The Virtek Vision Paint Inspection system provides real-time feedback to operators by projecting detected defects with safe-for-the-eye laser technology, offering rapid and precise defect identification. Instead of viewing a screen and then manually locating defects on the vehicle, or spending time wiping off markings sprayed by a robotic system, the contactless laser display enables efficient and quick processing. This approach reduces the need for materials like cloths and sprays, while also preventing new damage to the paint that could be caused by wiping or improper cleaning.
Operators can interact with the Virtek system, and defects can be marked with various geometric shapes to indicate their status as „to be processed“ or „completed.“ The Virtek system is compatible with both stop-and-go lines and inline systems. It combines a laser projector with a camera system capable of tracking movement. Virtek’s patented VPS laser projection systems are dynamically adaptable and can be configured for any vehicle type.
