White Paper: Curing of Liquid Coatings

Non-thermal curing of liquid coatings on three-dimensional molded parts

Curing Coatings Without Heat

Liquid coatings must be converted into a solid coating layer. Conventional thermal processes require energy for this purpose—for example, to evaporate solvents or water, as well as for polymerization and cross-linking.

This white paper demonstrates how electron beam curing can be used as a non-thermal process for liquid coatings on three-dimensional molded parts. It focuses on the physical fundamentals, process parameters such as dose, dose rate, and accelerating voltage, as well as the requirements for system design and coating application.

It also describes how compact, low-energy electron emitters can be integrated with industrial robots to selectively cure coatings on complex molded parts.

You’ll learn

  • How thermal drying differs from non-thermal curing
  • What role electron beam curing can play in liquid coatings
  • Which process parameters are relevant for targeted curing
  • What requirements arise for equipment design and coating application

Why ASIS?

ASIS combines surface technology, robotics, control technology, and electron treatment to create automated system concepts. This allows new processes to be evaluated not in isolation, but in terms of the interplay between coating, process parameters, system technology, and integration.
